Hidden Gems of Honolulu
Oahu is filled with many unique and wonderful experiences. That’s one of the reasons people choose to be an owner at the Imperial Hawaii Resort! One of the best kept secrets in Honolulu is a WWII Museum, just a short drive from the Imperial, with a hidden Speakeasy on the second floor. You NEED to visit the Home of the Brave Museum! This hidden gem is located in Kakaako and is truly an experience you don’t want to miss! Located at 909 Waimanu Street, this museum is one-of-a-kind and also family owned and operated.
My personal experience here was great. As soon as we walked in the door of the museum, we were greeted by one of the owners, Janet Tomilson. She asked if we had been there before and gave a brief description of the museum, but most importantly, she gave us the secret knock and password to get into the Speakeasy! The museum is wonderful, filled with knick-knacks, memorabilia and history galore. It is informational, fun and interactive. They have a Jeep and a motorcycle that they encourage you to look at, touch and even jump on for a photo shoot! Make sure to give yourself enough time to really enjoy yourself and see all of the treasures of this museum. It’s a self-guided tour with many things to see on the main floor and stairs that lead up to the Wiki Waki Woo Tropical Bar and Lounge Speakeasy on the second level. When you reach the top of the stairs, you’ll find a door with a sliding panel. First, you give the secret knock, then the panel of the viewing grille slowly slides open and you are prompted to give the password for entry! The Speakeasy fills up fast and has limited seating. I highly recommend you go right when it opens, so plan accordingly!
Home of the Brave Museum & Speakeasy Hours: Wednesday, Friday & Saturday: 5pm-8pm
Next door to the museum you will find the Brewseum. It’s just what is sounds like, a hybrid brewery and museum! Walk in the door and smile. There is so much going on here, from the model planes circling above to the tastefully placed memorabilia that you will see EVERYWHERE! It’s a visual experience from floor to ceiling. The vibe is fun, warm and welcoming. They feature a nice little menu of snacks and pupus as well as a beer selection that includes some of their own craft brews.
Brewseum Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 5pm-10pm and Friday & Saturday 5pm-11pm
